VPN beginners often have questions about accounts, data, connections and privacy. Understanding the service rules and how networking works before changing client settings is usually more useful than repeatedly switching routes. The answers below follow common usage scenarios and distinguish TangVPN's stated policies from settings to check on your device.

Account setup: Do I need an email address?

TangVPN does not require an email address. Create an account with a username and password. Use your account to access the dashboard, manage your plan and find downloads and subscription links. The marketing site is separate from the user dashboard. To get started, go to the dashboard rather than looking for subscription details in an article.

Keep your username and password safe, and use a unique password for this service. Not requiring an email address describes the account setup; it does not mean your device will stay logged in permanently or indicate how account recovery works. If you have trouble signing in, use the help options in the dashboard. Never post your password or full subscription link in a public forum.

Using multiple devices: Can they connect at the same time?

TangVPN has no limit on the number of devices connected at the same time. You can configure computers, tablets and other devices separately without disconnecting one to switch to another. But the number of devices and network capacity are different things: simultaneous downloads, file syncing and video streaming all use your local network and consume available account data.

If your connection feels sluggish, pause data-heavy tasks on other devices first and see whether the current device improves. If things work normally on one device but slow down when several are in use, the cause may be your home network, Wi-Fi signal or simultaneous activity—not an account limit. Each device has its own system settings, so a successful setup on your computer does not configure your other devices.

Data plans: Monthly subscription or data package?

A monthly subscription suits regular use. Its data allowance resets monthly on the day you activate it, not on the first day of each calendar month. A data package is suited to occasional or unpredictable use: it lasts until used and never expires. The no-expiration rule applies to data packages, not to the monthly subscription's data cycle.

Billing type Price and data Billing cycle
Monthly subscription¥9.9/month · 60GBResets monthly on the activation date
Monthly subscription¥18/month · 250GBResets monthly on the activation date
Monthly subscription¥28/month · 500GBResets monthly on the activation date
Data package¥158 · 300GBUse it whenever you need it; it never expires
Data package¥358 · 1000GBUse it whenever you need it; it never expires
Data package¥658 · 3000GBUse it whenever you need it; it never expires

Video streaming, file transfers and background syncing can use a lot of data, so the number of times you open the client each day is not a useful estimate. Check your actual usage in the dashboard before choosing a data allowance. A client's local usage counter may not match the server's billing measurement, so don't assume a file's size equals the data deducted from your account. If you have both a monthly subscription and a data package, check the dashboard for the deduction order rather than guessing.

Speed fluctuations: Does a slow connection mean throttling?

Not necessarily. Page load time, download throughput and interactive latency measure different things. Wi-Fi signal, your ISP's routing, route congestion, the destination site's response and background activity on your device can all affect performance. One slow download doesn't establish that your account is being throttled; the available service information also makes no fixed-speed or no-throttling guarantee.

To troubleshoot, keep the device and destination site the same, pause other transfers and compare available routes. If only one site is slow, start by checking that site and its related requests. If everything is slow, check your local network and client. A speed test reflects the route at that moment; it does not guarantee the same results on future visits and cannot replace testing the tasks you actually use the service for.

Choosing a route: How do regions and route types work?

TangVPN offers 110+ countries and 180+ routes. First check the destination service's region requirements, then compare the stability of routes available to you. A nearby location does not necessarily mean a shorter network path. A region label also cannot confirm that a destination platform will accept the exit IP; libraries and features may still depend on the platform's rules, your account status and other factors.

A direct connection usually means connecting from your device straight to an overseas service node. A relayed connection passes through an additional forwarding node. IEPL refers to a specific dedicated transmission link, so it is not quite the same kind of classification as the first two. Route names do not guarantee end-to-end speed or establish the type of exit IP. These are general concepts, not a list of route types supported by TangVPN; check the dashboard for available options.

Client setup: How do I import a subscription after downloading?

Downloads and subscription links are available in the dashboard after you log in. A plan is not required to download a client, except on iOS, where an active plan is needed to access the actual download link. Downloading the software, getting a subscription and connecting successfully are separate steps; installing the app does not mean you're ready to access the internet through it.

  1. Sign in to the dashboard and find the client and instructions for your operating system under Downloads.
  2. Follow the dashboard instructions to get your subscription, then import it into a compatible client or use the provided import method.
  3. Update the subscription, make sure the route list has loaded, then choose a route and connect.
  4. Check your system proxy or the relevant network routing settings, then test access to a site you need to use.

Windows, macOS, Android and iOS differ in how they route network traffic, handle permissions and manage background activity, so menu names and steps may vary. Shadowsocks, VMess, Trojan, VLESS, Hysteria2 and TUIC are different proxy protocols, and client support varies. A client's claim that it supports these protocols does not mean TangVPN provides them all. Use a compatible configuration from the dashboard.

When to connect: Do I need to stay connected?

It depends on what you're doing. You don't need to stay connected just to keep your account active. For remote collaboration, file uploads or streaming responses, keeping the connection consistent can help the task finish successfully. Switching routes mid-task may change your exit IP and interrupt existing connections, requiring you to reload or sign in again.

For everyday use, you can use the client's split-tunneling rules to send different destinations over different routes. Rule mode is not guaranteed to meet every app's needs, and global mode may not cover apps outside the client's routing scope. Before closing the client, make sure uploads and sessions have finished. If your network acts up after you exit, check that your system proxy settings have been restored correctly.

Connection issues: Connected, but can't open websites?

“Connected” usually means the client has an active connection; it does not prove that every app's requests are taking the expected route. First work out whether no sites load, one site won't load or only one app has a problem. Then troubleshoot accordingly, instead of changing several settings at once and making it harder to identify the cause.

  • ✅ Check that your local network works, then confirm your plan status and remaining data in the dashboard.
  • ✅ Update the subscription, make sure the selected route is still listed and check the client for errors.
  • ✅ Check your system proxy, app-specific proxy settings and split-tunneling rules to see where requests are going.
  • ✅ Look for DNS resolution errors. If your browser uses its own encrypted DNS, check that it works with the client's settings.
  • ✅ Keep other conditions the same, then switch to an available route or a different local network and see whether the issue persists.

If only one platform blocks access, the cause may involve its regional rules, exit IP detection or account permissions. Reimporting the subscription repeatedly may not help. When asking for support, include your operating system, client, error message and what you were doing when the issue occurred. Never post passwords, full subscription links or personal session information publicly.

Privacy limits: What are the limits of a no-logs policy?

No. TangVPN's privacy policy is anonymous, no-logs, but that does not erase account records kept by websites, browser cookies or device identifiers. When you sign in to a personal account, a site may still associate your activity with that account. A proxy service is no substitute for updating your system, using a password manager or being cautious about suspicious downloads.

A DNS leak generally means that domain lookups you expect to go through a protected route are instead sent another way. Troubleshooting involves the client's DNS configuration, system name resolution and browser settings—not just your exit IP. A correctly displayed exit location does not prove that all DNS queries and app traffic are routed as expected. Interpret test results in light of the network mode you're using.

Changing plans: Can I upgrade or request a refund?

If you upgrade a TangVPN monthly subscription mid-cycle, the price difference is converted into remaining days. Before proceeding, check the adjustment shown in the dashboard rather than assuming you'll receive a new full billing cycle. Payment methods include Alipay, WeChat Pay and USDT. Compare prices and data allowances on the Plans & Pricing page.

Refund policy: You can request a no-questions-asked full refund within 30 days of your first payment. This applies to requests made after the first payment; it does not mean the period resets with every payment. To request a refund, check the instructions in the dashboard and keep your order details. For help with basic setup, see the setup guide.

For beginners: First make sure your device and client are compatible, then choose a billing option based on your actual usage. Troubleshoot connection issues by checking your local network, subscription status, rules and destination site in turn. Unlimited simultaneous devices, the privacy policy and route coverage each have a specific meaning; none guarantees smooth access in every situation.
